CHICAGO, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Savi Technology, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT) and leading provider of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based total asset management solutions, today announced that official regulatory bodies in Taiwan, Malaysia and Chile have approved the use of Savi's active RFID tags and readers. The certifications pave the way for further global expansion of Savi's active RFID networks, which automatically monitor the location, security and environment of cargo containers.

"Businesses in Taiwan, Malaysia and Chile recognize the economic and strategic value of standardized RFID, and certification facilitates our ability to help make the supply chains there more efficient and secure," said Fraser Jennings, Savi's vice president of Standards and Regulatory Activities. "International recognition of ISO 18000-7 means customers can deploy a single active RFID platform globally, which translates into lower deployment costs, greater flexibility in designing active RFID networks, and a higher return on investment."

Savi products are now approved for use in more than 50 countries located throughout all major trading regions worldwide. The Savi hardware is based on the ISO 18000-7 standard for battery-powered RFID devices operating in the 433 MHz radio frequency.

Taiwan's Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT) approved the use of Savi's RFID hardware. Savi Networks, a joint venture between Savi Technology and Hutchison Port Holdings, is already deploying RFID reader infrastructure at the Port of Kaohsiung in Taiwan as part of its growing global network and SaviTrak(TM) information services. A full deployment covering gates and cranes and utilizing Savi SR-650 readers and Savi SP-652 signposts is currently in progress.

In Malaysia, Savi's RFID tags and readers were certified by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Savi Networks is also expanding its monitoring network at the Westports Malaysia Port in Port Klang, where Savi readers will cover gates while signposts will monitor rail traffic.

In Chile, certification was awarded by the Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones. The approval was sought as part of Savi Networks' plans to expand its RFID-based infrastructure to strategic supply chain locations in Asia, Europe, and North and South America.

These product approvals also facilitate the deployment of systems from Savi Technology IP licensing partners participating in the Savi ISO 18000-7 licensing program. For more information on Savi licensing, contact licensing@savi.com
